007: The affairs left undone

503 words.

At the end of the one month break, there is a persistent feeling that not much was achieved.

I did manage to achieve rest, which was an achievement by itself. There was plenty of peace made with some knots from past goals.

What was achieved?

  • Built a Second Brain
  • Separate myself from a lukewarm relationship
  • Invested some holdings into cryptocurrency
  • Onboarded team into Notion for task and progress tracking

This already includes most of the important areas of life: wealth, health and relationships. The skills gained were not of direct application, but in the meta-skills to enhance performance in all the rest

What more do I have wished to get my teeth into?

  • Doing something about tidying up the house and fixing some of the neglected parts.
  • Doing something about cleaning up the mess of my table.

And that’s pretty much it. The central theme of all this seems to trying to install order in a chaotic environment.

As I write this, there is some anxiety at having that vulnerability exposed to the whole world. How would others think of that irrational desire to impose order? Will there be resentment at making a choice for them?

One may say ‘ignore what they think’, but there needs to be some consideration for others in the actions we take. The world is meant to be lived as a community, not in individual silos. Be mindful of the impact we have on others, especially if our goal is to be positive value to the world?

I find the criticism of what’s lacking comes easily to me, and not the celebration of achievements. But the latter is what drives people forward of their own will. The carrot is much more sustainable than the stick.

And yet, the stick is much more prevalent even in the feedback loops present in society. In addressing vices and crimes, our first thought is the punishment of perpetrators. Rarely the encouragement of good citizens, whose good deeds propagate through the world unannounced. Curiously, even while the propagation is silent, the impact of others is a butterfly effect; the goodwill of one encouraging the goodwill and kindness of others around them.

Maybe that’s the world that I strive to create, in spite of base human flaws in my interactions with others. Creating a space where people are unafraid of spreading kindness and courage to others, so that there are butterfly effects spreading everywhere.

The cool thing is being able to find goodwill at random corners all around. I see this as a vaccine for dystopian futures where knowledge is controlled, and the human life becomes a frigid exchange of work and living necessities.

Another flash of inspiration: Many classics I have read (enjoyed) are vivid descriptions of dystopian futures. I seemed to be drawn to the crafting of such realisations of society. Perhaps the inkling of the future orientation is still there: what better way to prepare for the future, than the visualisation of what bad ending to avoid?
