3 surprises from Kevin Kelly

Sometimes we look backwards and had bits of advice for our younger selves. Kevin Kelly looked back at 68 years old and had 68 of them. Here are 3 of them that were the most surprising.

Build identity, not belongings

Work to become, not to acquire.

Finish the small to build the big.

Small things done every day are key to building the following:

  • Relationships - Daily positive contact
  • Movement - X numbers of steps
  • Learning - Y pages

Stick to completing the small to build the big.

The consistency of your endeavors (exercise, companionship, work) is more important than the quantity. Nothing beats small things done every day which is way more important than what you do occasionally.

With mastery comes responsibility

At the very least, there is the responsibility to show others behind you a better way.

With your help, you will allow those coming after a chance to stand on your shoulders. Your experiences and mistakes are a gold mine for them, as there is no need for them to go through the same pain.

It is not an obligation, but it makes things better.

If your sense of responsibility is not expanding as you grow you are not really growing.
