The key is to separate the planning self and executing self. Both need different mindsets from each other.

When we have the space to plan, we are able to leverage on all our knowledge, experiences and resources. We are able to see from different perspectives, and make objective evaluations.

When on the scene, that changes. We react in the heat of the moment. There is only instinct and what we know deeply to call on. We fail to make full use of everything we have.

Don't rely on your executing self all the time. Let your planning self take full control of the nitty-gritty. This allows the executing self to rely on their instinct.
