Our life experiences and observations are a rich source of reflection and insight that we can apply if we manage to capture them. Without this mindful acceptance, we let go of a valuable resource.
Here are some examples:
- Chefs strip all available flesh and organs for use
- Teachers leverage on all relevant conversations to build on the discussion
- Detective look for what’s present, and what’s absent
Masters can perform this processing effortlessly. This is something to be trained in the individual not used to making observations and capturing ideas, but can provide a wealth of content to apply. Copious notes need to be taken, so the boundless 'what' can be captured for use. The alternative is making shit up, or going through the thought process repeatedly.
To do so, there is a need to overcome the friction in capturing ideas. The tools that we use matter, because the tool must fit into the workflow, and not vice versa.
The skills of observation must also be trained. Not making judgement about the thought helps. Or rather, pause and capture first, then judge later.
